GD filed over fake Facebook pages impersonating Rizvi

A General Diary (GD) was lodged with Dhanmondi Police Station in Dhaka regarding multiple fake Facebook profiles and pages misusing the name and images of BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The unauthorized accounts have been circulating political statements, photos, and videos under his name.
Rizvi's personal assistant, Mashiur Rahman, filed the GD on Thursday evening, later sharing details in a social media post on Friday afternoon.
The complaint stated that Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed does not personally operate any Facebook ID, profile, or page. Consequently, any posts, comments, media, or political remarks published from accounts bearing his name should not be considered his official or authorized statements.
The filing highlighted that several fake profiles and pages recently emerged using Rizvi's identity, photos, and political designation. Notably, one of these accounts displays a blue verification badge, creating confusion among the public regarding its authenticity.
The complaint alleged that these fake platforms disseminate unauthorized political opinions, news, and digital media in Rizvi's name, raising concerns about potential misinformation campaigns in the future.
The GD warned that fraudulent political campaigning using his identity damages Rizvi's personal reputation and political image while misleading the general public.
Describing the activity as an abuse of Rizvi’s identity, the complaint requested a thorough police investigation. Misuse of his name is not unprecedented, as similar complaints and GDs were previously filed with Paltan Police Station.
