Bangladesh to face severe load shedding on Friday

Power deficit across the country may lead to a peak load shedding of up to 2,695 MW on Friday.

According to the Power System Forecast Scenario, national electricity demand is expected to reach 17,140 MW at 11:00 PM. Production during that hour is estimated at 14,317 MW, leaving a severe shortfall.

Data released by the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh PLC on Friday afternoon showed that power deficits will escalate sharply following the afternoon hours.

Forecasts projected 363 MW of load shedding at 12:00 PM, increasing to 1,141 MW at 1:00 PM and 941 MW at 3:00 PM. The deficit is estimated to drop slightly to 738 MW at 4:00 PM and 527 MW at 5:00 PM.

Power deficits are projected to surge rapidly in the evening as demand spikes. Load shedding will rise from 268 MW at 6:30 PM to 1,008 MW by 7:00 PM. Shortfalls are expected to reach 1,704 MW at 7:30 PM and 1,744 MW at 8:00 PM.

Projections indicate that load shedding will increase further to 2,133 MW at 9:00 PM and 2,016 MW at 10:00 PM, before reaching the day's peak deficit of 2,695 MW at 11:00 PM.

The power sector has experienced severe supply deficits throughout August, with daily load shedding repeatedly exceeding 2,000 to 3,000 MW.
