No one involved in drugs will be spared, regardless of political affiliation: State Minister Habibur Rashid

State Minister for Roads and Railways and the government’s coordinator for Narayanganj, Habibur Rashid MP, has said no one directly or indirectly involved in drug-related activities will be given protection, regardless of their political identity.
He made the remarks at a meeting on the overall law and order situation in Narayanganj, chaired by District Commissioner Md Raihan Kabir. The meeting discussed drug control, terrorism, road and traffic safety, the industrial sector, public security and other pressing issues.
Habibur Rashid said there is a demand from elected representatives and people concerned to upgrade Narayanganj to a metropolitan city and raise the district’s administrative classification from Category B to Category A or a special category.
Calling for strict measures to make Narayanganj drug-free, the state minister said everyone involved in drugs must be brought under the law, regardless of political affiliation. He added that the government is working to formulate laws ensuring the highest punishment for drug dealers.
He also stressed the need to investigate past incidents of murder, torture and persecution in Narayanganj and bring the actual perpetrators to justice. He called for the recovery of illegal firearms and verification of firearm licences that have not been renewed for a long time, followed by necessary legal action.
The state minister called for coordinated operations by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Detective Branch (DB) and police in areas where law enforcement capacity is limited at the local level. “Our goal is to make Narayanganj drug-free, free from terrorism and safe, and take the district forward on the path of development,” he said.
He said the government has already taken initiatives to address problems related to gas, water and electricity, although implementation would require time and continuity. He also alleged that some people were attempting to put the government and administration in an uncomfortable position, saying the government would not tolerate such activities.
Among those present at the meeting were Narayanganj-1 MP Mostafizur Rahman Dipu Bhuiyan, Narayanganj-5 MP Advocate Abul Kalam, Narayanganj-4 MP Advocate Abdullah Al Amin, Narayanganj City Corporation Administrator Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, Narayanganj District Council Administrator Professor Mamun Mahmud and District Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman Munshi.
Senior officials from the BGB, RAB, Coast Guard, city corporation, health department, administration, law enforcement and intelligence agencies were also present, along with elected representatives, business leaders, lawyers, educational institutions and representatives of other relevant departments.
