Missing minor found dead in Madhumati

GOPALGANJ, Aug 31: Police have recovered the body of a nine-year-old boy from the Madhumati River on Sunday, a day after he was swept away while bathing.

Fazle Rabbi, son of Jahangir Alam of Baka Village in Narail Sadar Upazila and a student at Baka Government Primary School in Narail, was visiting his maternal uncle’s home in Barail Village of Haridaspur in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila with his parents, police said.

Rabbi went to bathe in the river on Saturday afternoon with one Meherab, who was about the same age. Rabbi was swept away by the current and disappeared, said Md Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station.

Fire Service personnel arrived after receiving the report but could not immediately begin a search because no divers were available. Locals spotted Rabbi’s body floating in the river near Barail Village on Sunday afternoon and informed police, who recovered it.
