Extra 3MW power allocated from Barapukuria power plant

Relief has presided over the people of Hakimpur in Dinajpur after long spells of load-shedding as authorities have allocated extra power from Barapukuria power plant.

According to officials, an additional 3 megawatts (MW) of electricity from the Barapukuria grid to Hakimpur sub-station have been allocated to reduce the ongoing power outage.

Supply of extra power has already started and authorities expect this move will significantly ease the sufferings of thousands of local consumers.

Sources said the additional 3MW supply from the Barapukuria grid to the sub-station began on Tuesday (September 1). Officials stated that this addition will increase the sub-station's distribution capacity. It will also lower the level of regular load-shedding.

Besides the extra power allocation, NESCO authorities are assessing a proposal to construct nearly 2 kilometers of transmission line. This project aims to stabilize power supply to the sub-station. Officials indicated a final decision on this matter will come today after completing necessary evaluations.

Ferdous Rahman, President of Hakimpur Upazila BNP, credited Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain for the development. He said the BNP Standing Committee member, MP from Dinajpur-6, and Minister for Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs personally intervened to resolve the chronic power crisis. The Minister coordinated directly with authorities to secure the allocation.

Local residents believe rapid execution of both the extra power supply and the new transmission line will pave the way for a lasting solution to Hakimpur’s power troubles.
