All religions aim to establish peace in society: CMP commissioner

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Shawkat Ali has said the common goal of all religions is to establish peace and ensure people’s rights in society.

He made the remarks on Friday while addressing the inauguration of a colourful procession organised by the Bangladesh Central Committee of the Sree Sree Janmashtami Celebration Council in Chattogram.

The procession began at Anderkilla intersection and passed through several city roads before ending at JM Sen Hall.

The CMP commissioner called for collective efforts to build a secular, discrimination-free and justice-based Bangladesh.

“People should be judged on the basis of knowledge, talent and merit, not religion,” he said, urging people of all faiths and communities to work together to build a prosperous country.

He also called on people to play an active role in the country’s development and celebrate their respective religious festivals without fear.

The procession was organised to mark Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. It was inaugurated by Sri Satchidananda Puri Maharaj, Mohanta of Banshkhali Rishidham and Tulsidham.

He said Lord Krishna had left a lasting message of love and humanity and urged people to follow religious teachings that promote equality and humanity.
