Opposition should offer solutions to energy crisis: Rizvi

BNP Acting Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has urged opposition parties to provide alternative plans to address the country’s gas and electricity crisis instead of only announcing political programmes.

“Give us an alternative plan on how we can supply gas and electricity, where we can get them from and what steps can be taken to overcome the crisis,” he said.

Rizvi made the remarks at a programme at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday (September 4).

He said opposition parties have the right to criticise the government and hold political programmes as part of democratic practice. However, they should also suggest ways to address the country’s problems.

Referring to the energy crisis, Rizvi said the situation had been worsened by global conflict and disruptions in fuel supplies, particularly difficulties in transporting fuel through the Strait of Hormuz.

He said the crisis was affecting power generation, industrial production and fuel supplies for households.

“We should not create a planned paralysis. Rather, there should be a realistic plan on how this crisis can be resolved,” Rizvi said.
