Freedom Flotilla to sail for Gaza again in Oct

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition is planning a new maritime mission to Gaza in October to challenge Israel’s blockade, as the UN says 24 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks between August 28 and September 1.
The flotilla’s participating vessels will make stops in Spain, Portugal and Italy before sailing towards Gaza, organisers said.
The UN said the 24 Palestinians killed during the five-day period included four children and a woman, with 21 of the victims killed in airstrikes. It also warned that civilians in Palestine remain unsafe nearly a year after the ceasefire was announced.
The coalition said the latest mission aims to challenge restrictions imposed by Israel on sea access to Gaza and increase international pressure over its policies toward the territory.
The organisers have called on governments to ensure the flotilla’s safe passage, allow unhindered humanitarian aid into Gaza and take diplomatic action against any attack, seizure or unlawful detention of its participants.
They also urged governments to take diplomatic, economic and legal measures against Israel’s blockade and violations of Palestinians’ rights.
The coalition said it would work with local organisations at different ports in Europe to build public support and pressure governments to halt arms and fuel supplies to Israel, reduce diplomatic and military cooperation and impose sanctions.
Coalition steering committee member Zohar Chamberlain-Regev said the Freedom Flotilla was sailing again because governments had repeatedly failed to fulfil their responsibilities toward Palestinians.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli forces have killed 73,389 Palestinians and injured 174,266 others in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
