SB SI beaten to death: Case filed, one arrested

A case has been filed over the killing of Special Branch Sub-Inspector (SI) Altaf Hossain in Savar’s Aminbazar, with police arresting one person in connection with the incident.

Savar Model Police Station OC Saiful Alam confirmed the development, saying the victim’s wife filed the case with the police station.

Police said they arrested Zahidul, identified as the prime suspect, late Saturday night. Several others allegedly involved in the killing have also been identified, and a drive is underway to arrest them.

The incident occurred around 8pm on Saturday in the Medina Housing area of Aminbazar. According to police, a group of youths assaulted a garage owner following an argument over parking an autorickshaw on the road.

Altaf intervened and protested the assault, prompting the attackers to turn on him. They allegedly beat him severely.

His younger son Ariful was also seriously injured when he tried to rescue his father.

Both were taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Altaf dead.

Police said the victim suffered serious injuries to his forehead and chest. He died before reaching the hospital.
