Bangladesh Bank has raised the annual foreign exchange travel entitlement for adult Bangladeshi citizens to US$18,000, up from US$12,000.
The central bank issued a circular on Sunday, increasing the amount that authorised dealer banks can release to an adult Bangladeshi for overseas travel in a calendar year.
According to the new directive, the revised quota is intended to meet the genuine foreign exchange requirements of Bangladeshi travellers and reflect changing international travel needs.
The annual entitlement has increased by US$6,000, or 50 per cent, from the previous limit of US$12,000.
There has been no change in the provision for children below 12 years. They can use up to 50 per cent of the adult entitlement, meaning their annual limit is now US$9,000.
However, the entire travel quota cannot be taken in cash. The existing limit of US$5,000 in cash dollar notes remains unchanged, with the remainder available through other authorised channels.
The revised quota will apply for each calendar year, from January 1 to December 31.
