Three found dead in three districts

Three people were found dead in two separate incidents in Nageshwari Upazila of Kurigram District, Narayanganj District and Kamalganj Upazila of Moulvibazar District in three days.

NAGESHWARI, KURIGRAM: A 25-year-old man who went fishing on Saturday night was found dead on Sunday morning in a paddy field some distance from his home.

Rubel Hossain, son of Bhola Mia, was found lying beside an electrical pole in the Uttar Byaparihat Nilurkhamar Kashirbita area of Santoshpur Union in Nageshwari Upazila of the district. His face and body appeared to have been burned. A farmer applying fertiliser in the field on Sunday morning saw the body. 

Local residents suspect Rubel may have died after coming into contact with electricity. The cause of death has not been confirmed.

Police recovered the body on Sunday afternoon and sent it to a morgue for an autopsy, said Enamul Haque Pradhan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nageshwari Police Station (PS). No family member had yet contacted police, he added.

NARAYANGANJ: Police recovered the bullet-riddled body of a man near a market in Narayanganj city early Saturday.

Shubho Das, 27, son of Hari Chandra Das of Matlab South Upazila in Chandpur District, was found dead around 1:15 am at a three-way intersection near the Chashara City Hawkers Market, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Crimes) Tarek Al Mehedi.

Police sent his body to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Investigators have not identified any suspects or determined a motive, Tarek Al Mehedi said.

Most shops at the market remained closed on Saturday morning as a tense atmosphere prevailed.

Shopkeepers, speaking anonymously, said drug dealing has long taken place in an alley behind the market. They said police raided the home of a suspected drug dealer identified as Anik two days earlier, recovering sharp weapons and hemp.

The shopkeepers alleged the deceased was a police source who accompanied officers during the raid and was killed in retaliation. Police have not confirmed the claim.

KAMALGANJ, MOULVIBAZAR: A joint rescue team recovered the body of an unidentified man from a stream near Hum Hum Waterfall deep inside the Rajkandi Reserved Forest in Kamalganj Upazila of the district early Friday.

Several fishermen spotted the body floating in the Sitab stream near Mokam Tila on Thursday afternoon and informed the authorities. Police, fire fighters and Department of Forest personnel began a rescue operation later that night under the supervision of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sandip Talukdar.

Rescuers trekked for hours through rugged hills and dense forest before recovering the body early Friday. The man was estimated to be 55 to 60 years old and appeared to have been dead for several days, officials said. Locals said the body may have been swept downstream by hilly onrush and strong currents.
Kamalganj PS OC Komor Uddin said the body was sent for an autopsy.
