GOPALGANJ, Sept 6: Three people were killed and at least 30 others injured when a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a ditch beside the Dhaka-Khulna highway near the Gerakhola Bridge in Muksudpur Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
One of the deceased was identified as Anisur Rahman of Daulatpur Upazila in Khulna District. The other two victims had not been identified.
Seventeen injured passengers received treatment at Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex, while four critically injured people were transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, a doctor said.
Abdullah, an injured passenger, said the driver was speeding when the bus lost control.
Police and firefighters recovered the bodies and rescued the injured, said Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Muksudpur Police Station.
