1,500 flood-hit families in Sylhet get UAE relief

United Arab Emirates (UAE) has extended humanitarian assistance to families recently affected by floods in Sylhet. As part of a wider UAE-funded relief initiative, food and clothing packages were distributed on Sunday to 1,500 affected families in Osmaninagar and Bishwanath upazilas.

The initiative is being implemented through the Foreign Aid Office of the Embassy of the UAE in Dhaka, which is providing food and clothing packages to approximately 10,000 families affected by natural disasters in different parts of Bangladesh.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs attended the distribution programme as the chief guest.

Rashed Mohammed Naser Almail Alzaabi, Director of Foreign Aid at the Embassy of the UAE in Bangladesh, said, “Standing beside people affected by disasters such as floods is our humanitarian responsibility. This assistance program aims to help meet some of the immediate needs of affected families and to stand beside them during this difficult time.”

The recent floods have disrupted the lives and livelihoods of families across Sylhet and other affected parts of Bangladesh, damaging homes and limiting access to essential necessities. The relief initiative aims to support affected communities by addressing some of their immediate needs and easing the hardships caused by the disaster.

The UAE’s humanitarian assistance reflects the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates and reaffirms the UAE’s commitment to supporting the people of Bangladesh during natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
