Another ten parliamentary standing committees have been formed, one of the existing committees reconstituted in the Jatiya Sangsad.
At the sitting convened on Sunday (September 6), the proposals for the creation of new committees and reconstitution of an old one were unanimously adopted by voice vote under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
Shimul Biswas, MP of Pabna-5 constituency, has been elected chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The acting minister of the ministry would be the ex-officio member of the committee.
Other members of the committee include Mohammad Nurul Haque (Patuakhali-3), Mohammad Abdul Aziz (Natore-4), Mohammad Mirza (Sirajganj-1), Atikul Alam (Cumilla-7), Mohammad Mominul Haque (Chandpur-5), Mohammad Fazlur Rahman Saeed (Joypurhat-1), Mohammad Abdul Sattar (Nilphamari-1) and Sajida Samad (reserved women’s seat-42).
Shimul Biswas, politician and lawyer, is the main coordinator of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal. He was formerly special assistant to the former prime minister Khaleda Zia and was chairman of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation in 2004.
