President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to lay the foundation stone of Thakurgaon University on Monday (September 7), fulfilling a long-standing demand for higher education infrastructure in the northern region.

The ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM at the designated university site adjacent to the Thakurgaon-Pirganj road in Jamalpur under Sadar upazila. The foundation laying marks a key highlight on the second day of the President's first official visit to his home district since assuming office.

According to the official itinerary, President Alamgir will hold courtesy meetings with local dignitaries, relatives, and representatives from various professions on Monday morning prior to attending the foundation ceremony.

Following the event, he will return to his residence for lunch before proceeding to the Circuit House to complete official protocols. He is scheduled to depart Thakurgaon for Dhaka by helicopter later in the afternoon.

President Alamgir arrived in Thakurgaon on Sunday (September 6) for his two-day official tour. His helicopter landed at the Shahid Mohammad Ali Stadium, where he received formal state protocols and a guard of honor at the Circuit House.

During his visit, the President visited the graves of his parents to offer prayers. Later on Sunday afternoon, he attended a civic reception organized in his honor at the Thakurgaon Government Boys' High School grounds, which drew thousands of attendees.

Addressing the reception, President Alamgir acknowledged the historical underdevelopment of the district and reaffirmed his commitment to regional advancement.

He highlighted ongoing initiatives, including the establishment of a medical college and university in Thakurgaon, alongside active efforts to reopen the local airport.

Security was heightened across Thakurgaon in light of the presidential visit, with multi-tiered security coverage deployed across key thoroughfares, event venues, and strategic points throughout the city.
