High Court Justice Md Abdul Mannan has regained his judicial powers nearly six months after being kept away from judicial proceedings over an alleged incident of discourteous conduct at an Apex Club event in Cumilla.

A Supreme Court source confirmed the development on Monday.

According to the High Court cause list, Justice Abdul Mannan is now hearing cases in a single-judge civil bench at Court No. 9 of Bijoy Ekattor Bhaban. His name has been included in the cause list with judicial jurisdiction.

The judge had earlier been withdrawn from judicial functions following an incident involving alleged inappropriate behaviour at an Apex Club programme in Cumilla. His judicial authority was restored by the Chief Justice after roughly six months.

Sources said the Chief Justice had kept Justice Abdul Mannan away from judicial proceedings in April. He has recently been assigned a new bench to resume judicial functions.

The assignment of judges to benches, as well as decisions to keep a judge away from judicial proceedings, falls within the authority of the Chief Justice.

On April 3, Justice Mannan reportedly behaved discourteously at an Apex Club event in Cumilla. According to reports, he identified himself as a judge, allegedly issued threats and became involved in an altercation.

A video showing the judge’s alleged conduct at the event subsequently circulated widely on social media.
