Prime Minister's Political Assistant Rashed Khan has questioned the ideology of the National Citizen Party (NCP), alleging that the party's newly formed committee prioritised people who believe in Jamaat's ideology while sidelining those opposed to Jamaat and independent-minded leaders.
"Talking about a new political arrangement, you have formed a committee without holding a council. I see you criticising the BNP on talk shows at different times. But the BNP practises politics based on the ideology of nationalism. What ideology do you actually believe in? I think the NCP has no ideology at present," he said.
Rashed Khan made the remarks in response to questions from journalists after a football tournament organised by Charmuraridah Youth Club at the Agricultural Training Institute in Jhenaidah town on Friday afternoon (October 23).
Jhenaidah district BNP Vice-President and Sadar thana BNP President Munsi Kamal Azad Pannu, Senior Joint Secretary General Abdul Majid Biswas, BNP and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists, and people from different walks of life were present at the event.
Rashed Khan alleged that people accused of goat theft, laptop theft, and involvement in scandals concerning women and financial irregularities had secured top positions in the NCP. He claimed that some people who upheld ethical values had been excluded from the committee, while others had been relegated to the back rows.
He further alleged that the committee had been announced with Jamaat's approval.
"A party that needs Jamaat's approval to form its committee would be better off not existing under the name NCP. Nahid Islam and others should now take all their party leaders and activists and join Jamaat together," he said.
Accusing the NCP of aligning with what he described as anti-national forces, Rashed Khan alleged that the party had joined hands with people who opposed the country's independence and did not believe in its national flag.
The prime minister's political assistant also criticised Jamaat-e-Islami, saying the party's promise of showing people the path to heaven was comparable to the false promise of heaven made by the Dajjal before the Day of Judgement.
He alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami was deceiving people in the same way.
