Bus helper dies after fight in Sayedabad

A bus helper died after two groups clashed following an argument between two women at Sayedabad bus terminal in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Fakir Alamgir, 46. His family alleged that a young man named Shukkur Ali punched him in the chest, causing him to fall on the road and sustain a serious head injury.

The incident occurred around 9am in front of the Bus Owners Association office at Sayedabad bus terminal.

Alamgir’s son, Rabbiul Awal, said an argument broke out between his mother, Tuni Akter, who sells khichuri in front of the association office, and a woman who was sweeping the area.

At one stage, the woman’s son Shukkur Ali arrived and got into a scuffle with Alamgir. Rabbiul alleged that Shukkur repeatedly punched his father in the chest, causing him to fall onto the road, where a piece of broken brick struck his head.

Alamgir was taken to Mugda Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.

According to Sub-Inspector Antu Dey Prem of Jatrabari Police Station, an argument between a khichuri seller and a betel-leaf seller over a trivial matter escalated into a fight. The man subsequently fell on the road and died, police initially learned.

The body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Legal proceedings are underway.
