Actor Ashraful Haque Don, an accused in the Salman Shah murder case, was sent to jail on Wednesday after a five-day remand.

CID Inspector and investigation officer Mojibur Rahman produced Don before a Dhaka court and sought his detention in jail, saying he had withheld important information during interrogation.

According to the CID, Don, a close friend and co-actor of Salman Shah, acknowledged knowing several absconding accused but allegedly concealed crucial information about the case. Investigators also claimed to have found information suggesting his possible involvement, which is being verified.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana ordered Don to be sent to jail, prosecution official SI Shah Alam said. No bail petition was filed on his behalf.

Don was arrested by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 9 and later handed over to the CID. On August 27, the court granted him five days remand after investigators sought seven days.

Salman Shah, whose real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon, died at his Eskaton residence in Dhaka on September 6, 1996. His death was initially treated as an unnatural death, but his family later alleged that he had been murdered.

Several investigations over the years concluded that there was no evidence of murder. However, Salman’s mother, Neela Chowdhury, repeatedly challenged those findings.

On October 20 last year, a Dhaka court allowed her revision petition and ordered a murder case to be filed, directing Ramna Model Police to investigate the allegations.

The latest case alleges that Salman Shah was killed in a pre-planned conspiracy involving the named and unidentified accused.
