Actress Vidya Balan is back in the spotlight, this time with fresh developments surrounding her past hit 'The Dirty Picture' and a new project with filmmaker R. Balki.
Balan was last seen in the 2024 film 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3', but her role did not leave a significant impression on audiences. Since then, there had been little discussion about the acclaimed actress. However, the 15th anniversary of 'The Dirty Picture' has brought her back into the headlines.
Producer Ekta Kapoor recently announced plans for a sequel to the much-discussed film during a podcast. She said she had been planning 'The Dirty Picture 2' for a long time and that it would be one of her major big-budget projects.
Explaining the delay, Kapoor said she had been waiting for a suitable story. She now believes she has found a narrative that offers something new to explore.
Kapoor also revealed that, like the original, the sequel will focus on a woman's life. However, she did not confirm whether Balan would reprise her role.
Following the announcement, several Indian media outlets, including India Times, Aajkaal and Anandabazar Patrika, reported growing interest among fans in the possibility of a sequel featuring Balan. Her involvement, however, remains unconfirmed.
Meanwhile, Balan is reportedly set to reunite with filmmaker R. Balki, who directed her acclaimed film 'Paa'. The actress and filmmaker are said to be collaborating on a Tamil project, 17 years after their first collaboration.
Released in 2009, 'Paa' featured Balan as the mother of Amitabh Bachchan's character. Her performance earned her the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
The upcoming collaboration has raised expectations among fans, given the recognition Balan received for her performance in 'Paa' and her previous work with Balki.
