Two-day BRICS summit starts in Delhi Sept 12

New Delhi, Sept 9: New Delhi has tightened security ahead of the two-day BRICS summit beginning here on September 12 and nearly 4,800 traffic security police personnel are set to manage safe and hassle- free movement of dignitaries.

Several ministries and agencies of the government are working in close coordination to ensure that all arrangements are executed with perfection. More than 35 major roads have been identified for traffic restrictions and diversions.

India's Supreme Court, close to the BRICS summit venue, has declared September 11 as holiday for both the Court and its Registry, in view of preparations for the BRICS summit, according to a circular issued by the Supreme Court's Administrative General Bench. September 12 will be a holiday for the Registry.

Security has also been stepped up around the ten hotels where the delegates are expected to stay besides a dozen important locations in the national Capital.

Among distinguished guests expected here for the 18th BRICS summit are Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Russian President Vladimir Putin, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jiomart Tokayev, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. 
BRICS has 11 full members and 10 partner countries. Indonesia joined BRICS in early 2025. 

Some men could be seen installing CCTV cameras in front of gate number 6 not far from where flags of BRICS member countries have been put. 

Sources said that as many as 1,900 CCTV cameras are being put all over the national capital.
