B'desh measles outbreak kills over 1,000 children

Child fatalities from measles and suspected measles symptoms in Bangladesh crossed the 1,000 mark following three new deaths.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed in a press release on Wednesday (September 9) that the total death toll reached 1,002. From March 15 to September 9, a total of 902 children died from measles symptoms, while 100 deaths were confirmed measles cases. All three deaths recorded in the last 24 hours were due to suspected measles symptoms, with no new confirmed deaths reported during this period.

Health authorities reported 1,119 new suspected cases and 69 confirmed cases in the past 24 hours. The cumulative number of combined cases has risen to 187,484 since March 15, comprising 167,580 suspected cases and 19,904 confirmed cases.

During the same timeframe, hospitals across the country admitted 147,393 patients showing symptoms, while 141,819 recovered patients were discharged.
