Rumeen blasts corruption, power, fertiliser crises

Independent lawmaker Rumeen Farhana, elected from the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, has said power and gas shortages will not disappear simply because BNP comes to power.

She made the remarks on Wednesday night while speaking on a proposal to seek public opinion on a bill during the third session of the Jatiya Sangsad.

“Every government has a character. BNP will come to power and there will be no gas and electricity crisis�"that cannot happen,” Rumeen said. “BNP will come to power and there will be no fertiliser crisis, and poor farmers will not loot fertiliser; that also cannot happen.”

She further said, “BNP will come to power and Bangladesh will not become champion in corruption�"that is also not possible. BNP will come to power, and Bangladesh will not achieve the highest position in loan defaulting for the first time; that too cannot happen. So, BNP coming to power means becoming number one in loan defaulting.”

Rumeen also criticised what she described as intolerance in parliament, saying, “This is such an intolerant parliament. It feels as if we have gone back to the Awami League era. It’s not bad for fun. When we used to tell the Awami League, they would also create uproar. Now the BNP is behaving in the same way. Even worse.”
