iPhone Duo sparks hype; B'desh price may top Tk 3.4 lakh

Apple officially entered the foldable smartphone market with its $1,999 passport-shaped iPhone Duo, generating significant buzz among Bangladeshi tech enthusiasts despite hefty local price estimates.
Local grey-market importers and authorized resellers estimate the flagship device will cost between Tk 3,40,000 and Tk 4,00,000 in Bangladesh due to import taxes and international transport overheads.
The phone features a passport-sized 5.4-inch outer cover screen that opens into a 7.6-inch inner display.
Built with a Grade 5 titanium chassis and a precision-engineered 100-component hinge, the unfolded device measures just 5.2 mm thick, making it the thinnest iPhone display to date.
Apple utilizes a custom maskless laser lithography polymer and a nano-texture anti-reflective coating to minimize screen distortion, though official specs confirm a subtle wide-angle crease remains visible.
Powered by Apple’s desktop-class A20 Pro chip, the phone features dual-screen iOS 27 multitasking, an under-display inner FaceTime camera, side-mounted Touch ID, and the first-ever Apple Pencil support on an iPhone.
Tech analysts noted its high productivity appeal for corporate professionals and executives.
However, industry experts highlighted key practical drawbacks for Bangladeshi users, particularly Apple's complete removal of physical SIM slots globally in favor of an eSIM-only framework.
While major telecom operators in Bangladesh provide eSIM support, many local consumers still prefer physical SIM slots for easier network switching and international travel.
Despite the steep local cost, pre-orders have already opened through various retail outlets in Dhaka, aligned with the global market release on October 23.
