Former Begum Rokeya University Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah was shown arrested on Thursday in a murder case filed with Kafrul Police Station over the July 2024 uprising. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam passed the order following a petition by the investigation officer.
During the hearing, defence lawyer Mohsin Reza said Kalimullah had never been involved in politics and was only a professor and former vice-chancellor.
Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Suman, however, alleged that he was associated with the Awami League and had links to the killing.
Kalimullah told the court that he had never been involved with any political party and had protested the killing of Abu Sayed, a student of his university who was killed during the July uprising.
