Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested 32 people for allegedly taking part in a flash procession organised by the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations in the capital’s Gulshan area.

Police also said they recovered five cocktails from their possessions.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Md Akter Hossain confirmed the arrests on Saturday, saying legal proceedings against those are underway.

Gulshan Police Station Officer in-Charge Md Daud Hossain said around 150-200 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations gathered in a lane off Road 3 in Gulshan at around 11:45AM on Friday and attempted to stage a procession.

Police said the protesters hurled cocktails targeting law enforcement officers when police moved to disperse the gathering. Officers then fired two rubber bullets to bring the situation under control, causing the procession to break up.

Later, police arrested 32 people from the scene and nearby areas for their alleged direct involvement in the procession.

Five cocktails were also recovered, police added.
