Eight-year-old dies of dengue

An eight-year-old boy died of dengue at Chattogram Medical College Hospital on September 9, taking the number of dengue deaths in the district this year to 10.

The deceased, Abrar, was a resident of Halishahar. He was admitted to the hospital on September 3 and died six days later. His dengue infection was confirmed through an NS1 antigen test, with the cause of death recorded as expanded dengue syndrome.

The Chattogram Civil Surgeon’s Office confirmed the death in its daily dengue report issued on Saturday.

According to the report, 54 new dengue patients were admitted to government hospitals in Chattogram in the past 24 hours. Of them, 26 were admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, 10 to the 250-bed General Hospital, 10 to upazila health complexes and two to Chattogram Combined Military Hospital. Six more patients were diagnosed at private hospitals and clinics.

The civil surgeon’s office said 2,796 dengue cases had been recorded in Chattogram from January 1 to September 12, including 2,380 in government hospitals and 416 in private hospitals and clinics.

During the period, 227 patients were admitted to government and private hospitals, while 2,569 recovered and were discharged. A total of 10 people died of dengue in the district.
