The BNP’s National Standing Committee on Saturday decided to fill vacant party posts by promoting lower-ranking leaders in line with the party constitution.
The committee also discussed organisational and political issues, including the upcoming by-election for the seat vacated by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi disclosed the decisions after a meeting of the National Standing Committee at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan. The meeting was chaired by BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman.
Rizvi said the meeting discussed filling vacant posts by promoting leaders from lower ranks according to the party constitution. He said the party's national council was not discussed.
The committee also decided to distribute dengue awareness leaflets across the country while reviewing government measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
Rizvi said the meeting discussed the Prime Minister's directives issued on Saturday morning to district and upazila-level officials on dengue prevention. The committee thanked the government for its initiatives to combat dengue.
He said steps had been taken to supply mosquito nets to hospitals at district and upazila levels. The BNP would also cooperate organisationally with efforts to involve voluntary organisations, Girl Guides, Scouts and students in dengue prevention, he said.
Awareness programmes would be broadcast repeatedly on radio, television and social media, Rizvi added.
