4 children die of measles symptoms in Sylhet in single day

Four children died with suspected measles symptoms in Sylhet over the past 24 hours, raising the number of deaths from confirmed measles and suspected cases in the division to 164.

The deaths were reported from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, according to a report issued by the Sylhet Divisional Health Directorate on Monday (September 14) morning. 

Two of the deceased were from Sylhet district, while one each was from Sunamganj and Habiganj. Three died at Osmani Medical College Hospital and the rest one at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.

According to the health department, the children were from Kanaighat and Zakiganj upazilas of Sylhet, Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj, and the Putijuri area of Bahubal upazila in Habiganj.

The report said 164 children have now died in Sylhet division this year after contracting measles or developing symptoms consistent with the disease. Of the total, 10 deaths were confirmed as measles, while the remaining 154 involved children who died with suspected measles symptoms.
