A fire broke out at the new building of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Monday evening, triggering panic among patients and their relatives.

Fire Service personnel brought the blaze under control with the help of 10 units.

The fire broke out around 6:20 PM on the eighth floor of the building, reportedly originating from the lift control room due to an electrical short circuit.

Hospital Deputy Director Zakiul Islam said no one was killed in the incident. However, around 20 people were injured while rushing downstairs amid the panic.

Fire Service Assistant Director Purna Chandra Mutsuddi said the extent of the damage would be assessed after an investigation.
