Saudi Arabia continues airstrikes on Houthis in Taiz

Saudi Arabia is continuing airstrikes on Houthi positions in Taiz, Yemen, according to an Al Jazeera correspondent reporting from the area on Tuesday.

A source in the Yemeni government forces said Saudi aircraft targeted platforms used by the Houthis to launch ballistic missiles from Taiz airport. The Houthis reportedly used the platforms to launch missiles at the port city of Mokha last week before capturing the Red Sea coastal city in a ground offensive.

Al Jazeera reported that Saudi airstrikes were also continuing in Taiz’s southern Khadir district.

At the same time, the Houthis have been deploying fighters and weapons to the Al-Sakab front, known as a gateway to northern Taiz. The group has reportedly sent armed fighters, armoured vehicles and heavy weapons there.

Saudi Arabia had earlier carried out airstrikes in Dhubab, Mokha and eastern Taiz.

Amid the Saudi and Yemeni forces’ attacks, the Houthis fired four rounds of artillery at Yemeni forces on the Al-Khadha front.

The Houthis said Saudi Arabia had carried out more than 300 airstrikes against them over the past five days. They warned that the conflict would escalate if Saudi Arabia continued its attacks.

In a statement posted on Telegram on Monday, the Houthis said the Saudi air force had used F-15 fighter jets, Eurofighter Typhoons and other aircraft in the attacks.

Tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia have escalated sharply over the past two weeks, raising fears of a full-scale conflict between the two sides.
