Strict action will be taken against those responsible if an investigation finds negligence, carelessness or corruption behind cracks in metro rail pillars and defects in bearing pads, Planning State Minister Zunaid Abdur Rahim Saki said on Wednesday.
He made the remarks at a press conference after an Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting at the Planning Ministry.
Saki said the current condition of MRT Line-6 is being investigated seriously, while efforts are underway to restore the service quickly and safely.
He said those responsible would be held accountable if the investigation finds that negligence or corruption caused the problems.
The state minister also said the government is focusing on quality services in major projects. Contractors and other companies involved in metro rail construction will have to follow specific safety and quality rules.
He added that companies working on underground sections would have to take full responsibility for repairs for three years if their work causes cracks or accidents in nearby homes, offices or roads.
