The government has decided to build a Nazrul stage at Dhanmondi Lake to promote cultural activities and enhance the capital’s aesthetics.
The decisions were announced on Thursday following a meeting with the prime minister at the Secretariat on issues concerning Dhanmondi and Gulshan lakes, according to administrators of Dhaka’s two city corporations.
Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam said the Dhanmondi Lake area would be given a modern makeover. He added that most restaurants along the lake would be removed, with only one or two allowed to remain.
Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan said waste management in the capital had improved somewhat but required further progress.
He said the prime minister had instructed the authorities to intensify efforts to improve waste management.
Meanwhile, the Premier has directed the relevant government agencies to step up efforts to prevent dengue disease.
