Explosive opener Abhishek Sharma smashed the record books on Thursday (September 17), hitting the fastest T20I century by an Indian batter and the fastest ever by a batter from a Test-playing nation.

The 26-year-old left-hander blasted a 30-ball hundred against Afghanistan in the third and final T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, breaking Rohit Sharma's nine-year-old record.

Rohit had scored a 35-ball century against Sri Lanka in Indore in December 2017.

Abhishek brought up the historic milestone with a single down to long-off off Abdollah Ahmadzai in the ninth over of the Indian innings, as commentator Murali Kartik confirmed on air that it was the fastest hundred among full member nations.

His whirlwind knock of 108 off 34 balls was studded with nine fours and eleven massive sixes at a staggering strike rate of 327.27, powering India to 132 without loss inside nine overs.

Fastest T20I hundreds among Full Member teams:

30 balls - Abhishek Sharma (India) vs Afghanistan, Delhi, 2026
33 balls - Sikandar Raza (Zimbabwe) vs Gambia, Nairobi, 2024
35 balls - David Miller (South Africa) vs Bangladesh, 2017
