27 undocumented Bangladeshis detained in Assam

Twenty-seven Bangladeshis, including women and children, have been detained in Assam, India, for allegedly staying in the country without valid documents.

They were detained during separate operations in Guwahati and Rangia in Kamrup district on Thursday. Assam police said they will be sent back to Bangladesh after legal procedures.

According to Assam Border Police Deputy Commissioner Kulendra Nath Deka, 12 Bangladeshis were first detained at an Assam State Transport Corporation premises in Guwahati based on local information.

During questioning, they said another group was travelling to Jammu and Kashmir by the Jammu Tawi Express. Police contacted railway authorities and later detained 15 more Bangladeshis near Rangia station.

The detainees are from Dhaka, Sunamganj, Gopalganj, Bagerhat, Khulna and Mymensingh. Police said none had valid documents related to their entry or stay in India.
