Two children die with suspected measles symptoms, 1,297 new cases

Two more children have died with suspected measles symptoms, while 1,297 new measles-related cases were reported across the country in the latest 24-hour period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said this in a report issued by its Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room on Friday.

Between 8:00 AM Thursday and 8:00 AM Friday, two people died with suspected measles symptoms, while no death from confirmed measles was reported.

With the latest deaths, the number of suspected measles deaths since April 10 has risen to 950, while 100 people have died from confirmed measles, taking the total measles-related death toll to 1,050.

The DGHS also reported 52 new confirmed measles cases and 1,245 new suspected cases during the period.

Since April 10, a total of 177,725 suspected measles cases have been reported, while 20,395 cases have been confirmed.

Dhaka recorded the highest number of confirmed measles deaths at 63, followed by Barishal with 19, Chattogram with 10, Sylhet and Rajshahi with three each, and Mymensingh with two.

Among suspected measles deaths, Dhaka reported the highest number at 428, followed by Sylhet with 165, Rajshahi with 93, Mymensingh with 77, Chattogram with 74, Barishal with 59, Khulna with 40 and Rangpur with 14.
