Dengue deaths rise by 7, 1,593 hospitalised

Seven more people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,593 new patients were admitted to hospitals, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS disclosed the figures in its regular dengue bulletin on Tuesday.

With the latest deaths, the total number of dengue fatalities this year has reached 164. Of them, 43 died in August and 67 in the first 14 days of September. The death toll was 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.

According to the bulletin, 1,593 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country between 8:00 AM Monday and 8:00 AM Tuesday.

The number of hospitalised dengue patients this year has now reached 55,163. Meanwhile, 1,566 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 50,941.

Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new admissions at 586, followed by Khulna with 290, Chattogram with 165, Barishal with 159, Rajshahi with 138, Mymensingh with 82 and Rangpur with 65.
