Pakistan vows to defend Saudi Arabia to any extent

Pakistan has reaffirmed its “unconditional” commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security, with the country’s military spokesperson saying Islamabad will go “to any extent” to defend the kingdom against aggression.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry made the remarks in an interview with Arab News on Thursday (September 17) amid heightened regional tensions and continuing attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement.

“Pakistan fully stands with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, both diplomatically and physically,” Chaudhry said, stressing that Pakistan’s commitment extends to the protection of the Haramain Sharifain and the Kingdom.

“We will go to any extent for the security of Haramain Sharifain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” he said, adding that Pakistan would provide whatever support is required by the Saudi leadership and people.

The DG ISPR said Pakistan was already present in Saudi Arabia for the protection of the kingdom and the two holy mosques in Makkah and Madinah.

He said the commitment to Saudi security was rooted in the “deep-rooted, historical and unbreakable bond” between the peoples and the political and military leaderships of the two countries.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said Islamabad remained committed to implementing its Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.

Pakistan has also been pursuing diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the region while maintaining close communication with Saudi Arabia.
