Cocktail explosions were reported in four areas of the capital—Jatrabari, Malibagh, Mohakhali and Agargaon, on Friday (September 18), leaving a rickshaw puller injured in Jatrabari.
The blasts occurred at different times throughout the day, with no casualties reported from the other incidents.
Around 7:40 PM, four to five cocktails exploded in front of Jatrabari Police Station. A rickshaw puller was injured in the incident.
Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Raju confirmed the blasts, saying the injured man was taken for treatment.
An additional deputy commissioner of the Demra Zone under Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Wari Division said the cocktails may have been thrown from Jatrabari flyover. However, the exact circumstances and those responsible could not immediately be confirmed.
Earlier, around 3 PM, two cocktails exploded in front of Fortune Shopping Mall on the main road near Malibagh rail crossing. The devices were reportedly thrown from Malibagh flyover. No one was injured.
Meanwhile, witnesses reported two successive cocktail explosions in the Mohakhali area in the evening.
Around the same time, another explosion was reported on a road near the Bangladesh Betar building in Agargaon.
However, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station OC Monirul Islam said no evidence of a cocktail explosion had been found at the Agargaon site.
He said police had not recovered any remnants indicating a cocktail blast.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage reportedly captured the explosion in the Agargaon area.
