The government has introduced new allowances for different units and ranks of Bangladesh Police, with the new pay and allowances structure coming into effect on January 1, 2028.

The provisions were included in the Service (Bangladesh Police) (Pay and Allowances) Order, 2026, published in the official gazette on September 17.

Under the new structure, police personnel will receive various special allowances based on their units and ranks. These include allowances for the Special Branch, District Special Branch, CID, PBI, metropolitan police, APBn, telecom, Mounted Police and training institutions.

Special allowances for senior officers will range from Tk 292 to Tk 990 a month in several units, while different rates have been set for other ranks.

The order also fixes new kit allowances. Officers of ASP rank and above will receive Tk 11,787 initially and Tk 7,249 annually for kit renewal. Inspectors, SIs, ASIs and constables will receive allowances according to their respective rates.

The new structure also provides Tk 3,000 a month as medical allowance up to the age of 50 and Tk 4,000 from the age of 50 years and one day until the end of post-retirement leave. Retired employees and lifelong family pensioners will receive up to Tk 6,000 depending on age.

A Bangla New Year allowance equivalent to 15 per cent of drawn basic salary will also be provided.

New house rent rates have been set for constables and other police personnel from January 1, 2028. Married constables without government accommodation will receive house rent ranging from 35 to 60 per cent of basic salary depending on grade and location.

The order also includes education assistance of Tk 500 per child, up to Tk 1,000 for two children, a Tk 500 tiffin allowance for grades 11 to 20, transport allowances and mobile allowances.

Personnel working in hill, haor, island and char areas will also receive additional allowances under the new structure.

Police personnel will have to fix their salaries online through the iBAS++ Pay Fixation system after the new scale takes effect.

The new order repeals the Service (Bangladesh Police) (Pay and Allowances) Order, 2015, while compatible allowances and benefits under the previous order will remain in force.
