Khulna-Kolkata ‘Bandhan’ train to resume after two years

The Khulna-Kolkata ‘Bandhan’ train service between Bangladesh and India is set to resume after a two-year suspension, although no date has yet been fixed.
Officials from the two countries recently held discussions on resuming cross-border train services, including the Bandhan and Maitree Express services.
The Bandhan Express was launched on the Khulna-Benapole-Kolkata route on November 9, 2017, to facilitate safer and easier travel between the two countries. However, rail services between Bangladesh and India were suspended on July 19, 2024.
Benapole railway authorities said the station is being prepared to resume operations once they receive official instructions. Waiting rooms and other passenger facilities are also being readied, station master Md Aynal Hasan said.
The resumption of the services is expected to benefit passengers travelling for tourism, medical treatment and business, while also reducing travel time and costs.
