A student was detained by Bangladesh Chhatra Dal members on suspicion of being involved with the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League at Mirpur Bangla College in Dhaka on Sunday.
The student, Snigdha Kumar Roy, is a 2020-21 academic year student of the college’s Economics Department.
Around 5:30 PM, Chhatra Dal members allegedly assaulted him before handing him over to Darus Salam police, according to the organisation’s leaders.
Moh Hafizur Rahman Sumon, joint convener of Mirpur Bangla College Chhatra Dal, alleged that Roy had been visiting the campus since noon to gather information about possible processions and was an active Chhatra League supporter.
Police said Roy was detained on suspicion of having links with Chhatra League, but his affiliation had not yet been verified.
Darus Salam Police Station OC Dulal Hossain said the Chhatra Dal members handed the student over to police, who subsequently took him to the station.
