Chhatra Dal factional clash at JnU

Two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra Dal clashed at Jagannath University on Sunday, with the groups led by the organisation’s member secretary Shamsul Arefin and joint convener Nahian Bin Anik.

The clash reportedly began when Arefin’s followers attacked Anik’s group with rods at a tea stall near Victoria Park.

Anik said they were attacked first and chased the attackers with rods in self-defence. He also alleged that outsiders were among the attackers.

The dispute is believed to be linked to a reading session organised by Arefin on September 19. Anik had posted a critical comment about the event on social media, which was later deleted.

University Proctor Prof Dr Azam Khan said Anik had submitted a complaint and the administration was monitoring the situation. He said no one was seriously injured, although some may have suffered minor injuries.
