The newly formed Special Response Battalion (SRB), replacing the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), has been assigned to investigate its first case since its formation.
A Dhaka court on Sunday (September 20) directed the SRB to investigate a case filed over alleged house grabbing, assault and extortion in Mirpur.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after recording the statement of complainant Mohammad Mizanur Rahman alias Bachchu and directed the SRB to submit an investigation report.
According to the case statement, the complainant has been looking after the property of his nephew Mohammad Yunus Ali and Ruma Akter, who live in Canada. The accused—Hemayet Uddin Sumon, Mohammad Nazmul Hossain and Munni Akter Mishti—allegedly attempted to occupy the property in their absence.
The complainant alleged that the accused forcibly entered the house on July 16, 2025 and threatened him with death when he protested. Hemayet allegedly demanded Tk50 lakh in extortion. After the demand was refused, the accused allegedly vandalised the house and took Tk2 lakh.
CMM Court Nazir Abul Hasan Kanon confirmed the development on Sunday.
