The second unit of the Rampal Thermal Power Plant in Bagerhat resumed power generation on Sunday after remaining shut for eight days due to a mechanical fault.

Anwarul Azim, general manager of the plant’s human resources department, confirmed the matter.

He said the plant authority always tries to ensure uninterrupted power generation, although temporary shutdowns of individual units due to mechanical faults can occur.

He said the fault was repaired through maintenance work and the unit resumed operation around 12:00 PM on Sunday.

Initially, the unit was generating 368.75 megawatts of electricity. Production will gradually be increased according to demand and supplied to the national grid, the authorities said.

The second unit stopped generation around 11:30 AM on September 13 due to a mechanical fault, reducing the plant’s daily generation by about half.

The plant’s two units have a combined generation capacity of 1,320MW. Normally, the two units together generate 1,100MW to 1,200MW.

Anwarul said both units are now operating at full capacity and the plant has sufficient coal in stock.
