BCB approves major changes to domestic cricket structure

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has approved several measures to develop domestic cricket, including higher match fees, a new six-team tournament covering all three formats and new facilities at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The decisions were taken at the BCB board’s fourth meeting on Sunday, held virtually.
The board gave in-principle approval to bringing first-class four-day cricket, List A cricket and T20s under a single structure through a six-team domestic tournament.
Under the proposed structure, ownership rights of the teams would initially be offered to corporate and financial institutions in Bangladesh for three years.
The new T20 competition is expected to begin in December 2026.
The board also approved increased match fees for men’s and women’s domestic cricketers. Players will receive Tk 40,000 for three-day matches, Tk 30,000 for List A matches and Tk 20,000 for T20 matches.
The daily allowance for Bangladesh Under-19 players has also been doubled from Tk 10,000 to Tk 20,000.
The BCB approved the construction of two new dressing rooms at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The new rooms will be used for domestic tournaments, practice matches and other games, while the existing dressing rooms will primarily be used for international matches.
The board also approved the installation of an international-standard athletics running track at the Bangladesh Cricket Academy ground in Mirpur.
It also approved the appointment of a consultant for renovation and development work at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura.
The board also discussed the proposed cricket ground at Purbachal.
