Raphinha achieves feat Messi never managed at Barcelona

Raphinha scored a perfect hat-trick as Barcelona came from behind to beat Sevilla 3-1 in La Liga, achieving a feat Lionel Messi never managed during his 17-year career at the club.

A perfect hat-trick involves scoring with the head, right foot and left foot in the same match. Raphinha achieved the feat against Sevilla, while Messi never scored such a hat-trick despite registering 36 hat-tricks during his La Liga career.

The Brazilian forward scored his second hat-trick in just seven matches this season. He had earlier scored three goals in Barcelona’s 7-2 victory over Racing Santander.

Following his latest hat-trick, Raphinha’s tally for the season rose to 12 goals, putting him alone at the top of the La Liga scoring chart.

Perfect hat-tricks have been rare in Barcelona’s history. Before Raphinha, Julio Salinas, Ivan de la Peña, Patrick Kluivert and Luis Suarez had achieved the feat for the club. Kluivert was the only one among them to score two perfect hat-tricks for Barcelona.

Suarez was the last Barcelona player to score a perfect hat-trick, doing so in 2015.

Raphinha, 29, is now the sixth player in Barcelona’s history to score in the same match with his head and both feet.

While Raphinha has surpassed Messi in this particular achievement, Messi remains La Liga’s leading hat-trick scorer with 36. Cristiano Ronaldo is second with 34 hat-tricks for Real Madrid.
