Atletico capitalized on the numerical advantage with goals from Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David before Antonio Rüdiger pulled one back late for the visitors.

Jonathan David doubled Atletico's lead in the 59th minute, finishing a cross from Giuliano Simeone to register his third goal in as many matches. Atletico threatened to expand their lead further, but Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois denied Julian Alvarez, while Ibrahima Konaté cleared Grimaldo's header off the goal line.

Rüdiger headed home from a Bernardo Silva cross in the closing minutes to reduce the deficit, but Real Madrid ran out of time to force an equalizer.
