Six more people have died of dengue in the past 24 hours, raising the country’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 184 this year, while 1,593 new patients have been hospitalised.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) dengue dashboard, the latest deaths include five men and a woman. One was aged between 11 and 15, while the others were aged between 21 and 45.
With the latest admissions, the total number of dengue patients hospitalised this year has reached 61,972. Of them, 57,610 have been discharged.
September has recorded 87 deaths so far, the highest monthly figure this year. August saw 43 deaths, while 36 were recorded in July.
A total of 26,126 dengue patients have been hospitalised in September so far, compared with 20,536 in August.
The monthly figures for hospital admissions were 1,081 in January, 409 in February, 353 in March, 640 in April, 714 in May, 2,907 in June and 9,206 in July.
