Children with disabilities get assistive devices in Khulna

KHULNA, Sept 22: Assistive devices were distributed among 38 children with disabilities in the city on Tuesday to ease their daily lives, support education and aid inclusion in mainstream society.

World Vision Bangladesh’s Khulna City Area Development Programme (ADP) organised the event at the CSS Ava Center conference room in the Natun Bazar area.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate Hoore Jannat attended it as the chief guest and handed over the equipment.

A total of 78 devices were distributed based on individual needs. The items included nine wheelchairs, 15 big-wheel special seating chairs, 5 cluster-wheel special seating chairs, 24 standing frames, 11 two-wheel walkers, 1 wedge, 4 knee gaiters and 9 toilet chairs.

Liton Mondal, Senior Manager of World Vision Bangladesh’s Khulna ADP Cluster Office, delivered the welcome address. Special guests included Md Hosenur Rahman, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office; Abdul Al Mamun, consultant-physiotherapist at the Disability Service and Assistance Centre; and Md Faridul Islam, Associate Coordinator at the Centre for Disability in Development, Dhaka.

The event was conducted by Francis Samuel Som, while Surabhee Biswas delivered the closing remarks.

The DC Hoore Jannat emphasised the importance of the equipment in ensuring mobility, independence and educational access, while calling on families and society to foster an inclusive environment. Organisers said the devices will enhance the children’s self-reliance and capacity for daily activities.
